Short Reflection

A photograph I took in Canada. I walked past this road every day on my way to and from school, yet one day I realized I had never taken a picture of it. I happened to have my camera with me, so I simply took one. Perhaps the moments we encounter most often make the most beautiful subjects. Things so familiar that we pass them by without a thought, things that quietly occupied a corner of our hearts without our knowing, may evoke the deepest emotions and memories. Familiarity gets in the way of gratitude. Even things I take for granted must carry some meaning, and perhaps I need to reflect on that meaning. Looking at this photograph, I vaguely remember riding in my host mother's car, listening to MercyMe as we drove along the highway. I know I have forgotten how difficult those days were, yet I still miss them a little. This photograph seems to awaken a particular kind of nostalgia.
